“In 2009 David Henderson, who had been doing his own material for many years, was persuaded to perform a set of Neil Young songs in an acoustic show, in the style of Neil’s “Silver and Gold” video. Although David was more than aware of his similarities in vocal style to Neil, he had always been reluctant to get on board with this. However, so it was that this solo show was arranged for the “Lochside Theatre” in Castle Douglas, Scotland in July 2009 for one night only! The theatre provided an excellent setting for such a project.
Along the way, other musicians became interested in being a part of the show. Long story short, Heart of Rust was born. The name didn’t come along until much later though. David, having already rehearsed for a solo show, began rehearsing with the band during the week of the show and the band performed 2 x 45 minute sets to a very busy theatre after a final rehearsal the day before! Flying by the seat of their pants!

The rest is history as they say and 8 years, or so down the road, Heart of Rust have performed the length and breadth of the country with a couple of trips to Europe thrown in! They have played in front of many “Rusties” ( Neil Young fans) to great acclaim and even performed at the famed “Maple Leaf” in London as part of the Canada day celebrations. Recently David performed at the “Little Canada Day” event in London.
The band cover the golden years of “Harvest”, “After the Gold Rush”, “Zuma”, “Rust Never Sleeps” along with little gems from “The Buffalo Springfield” era. One of the most heard compliments we have heard most often is that, if you closed your eyes, you were right there with Neil Young and Crazy Horse. So, if you like Neil Young, you’re gonna love Heart of Rust!”
