The nephew of Eddie Cochran has announced a new band and European tour to pay tribute to the Cochran legacy and mark sixty years since the release of the rock and roll legend’s first ever single.

“Skinny Jim” was released in the U.S. in 1956 and became the first of a string of classic hit singles including “Summertime Blues”, “C’mon Everybody”, “Three Steps To Heaven” and “Twenty Flight Rock”.

Now, Bobby Cochran – a world class guitarist himself – has teamed up with Brian Hodgson and Mike Bell, both founder members of the highly acclaimed Albert Lee & Hogan’s Heroes, to form “Somethin’ Else!”.

The band take their name from one of Uncle Eddie’s best known singles and will deliver a powerhouse mix of authentic rock and roll, roots, rockabilly and the best in Americana, along with a special Eddie Cochran tribute featuring several of his hits.

Bobby, who is based in Nashville, Tennessee, first picked up a guitar after being influenced by his uncle’s legacy in rock and roll. At thirteen he set his aim on becoming a master guitarist and went on to work with many prominent artists including Steppenwolf, The Flying Burrito Brothers and Leon Russell. Other notable collaborations have included performances with The Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir and Garth Hudson of The Band. A veteran of stage and studio, Bobby’s skill on the guitar has been compared to other guitar greats including Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Chet Atkins, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Gary Moore, Danny Gatton and Albert Lee.

Somethin’ Else ! also features the timely reunion of Brian Hodgson and Mike Bell – both founder members of Albert Lee & Hogan’s Heroes. That band toured for nearly thirty years. Mike played with Brian for twelve of those years and watching them play together again will surely be a long awaited musical treat for Hogan’s Heroes fans.

It was Brian who got the initial idea to form “Somethin’ Else!” following the success of his sell out “testimonial” concert in London in October 2014 which featured a host of musician friends like Chas & Dave, Marty Wilde and Elliot Randall (Steely Dan) who spent the night jamming straight-up, honest rock and roll.

“It was such an amazing night”, said Brian, “and the vibe from the audience was undeniable. Playing this kind of music is what I love doing and I thought it was time I started touring again”. Brian quit touring with Albert Lee and Hogan’s Heroes after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease but he is very much an active musician and a new treatment programme has recently re-energised him and spurred him on to tour again. As The Beach Boys used to sing : “Brian’s back!”.

“Having Mike Bell and Bobby Cochran in the band will make for a top notch show”, explained Brian, “Those guys are the real deal. Mike’s such a classy, accomplished pianist and Bobby is just outstanding. He is the Cochran legacy, don’t forget. Not only was Eddie Cochran his uncle but Bobby’s dad co-wrote some of those classic Cochran 50s hits like “Somethin’ Else” and the UK number one single “Three Steps To Heaven”.

The band have announced a UK and European tour for February and March 2016.
